1. Give us a brief update on what you've been doing since your original season of Real World.

I'm still with Paul in Seattle. We bought a house together a couple of years ago so we're pretty much hitched. I work as a real estate agent in the city and Paul runs his own online business. I also still speak at Universities on coming out and sexuality.

2. Do you have any current or upcoming projects you're working on now?

At some point, you've got to put the reality experience behind you and move on with life, though this can be easier said than done.

3. Are you involved with any charities?

Not currently but in the past I raised funds for the Alaska Rainforest Campaign, which works to stop mining, logging and oil drilling in Alaska's last wilderness.

4. Do you watch The Real World or Road Rules now?

I can't bear to watch it anymore. I've tried but it usually makes me cringe. I the older the show gets, the more self aware the casts become--this effect has been snowballing since very first season aired. The reality of the situation is that cast members now grew up watching the show and basically know every loophole for manipulation that exists. You have to ask yourself if there's any reality left to the show anymore. It's all a giant ego driven attention fest now.

5. What do you think of all the other reality shows that are on now?

The same as above. They all operate on the same premise and lack much reality. I think the ones like Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire are especially sick.

6. What effect has The Real World had on your career/life?

It changed my life in so many ways because the people and experiences I have come across since have given me a more open approach to living life. It left me with a sense that anything is possible. I've also created some amazing friendships that wouldn’t have happened otherwise--that goes especially for Kelley who is like a sister to me now.

7. Knowing what you know now, would you do it again?

Of course; I learned so much about myself and the nature of people through this experience.

8. What's the one question you get asked most by fans? (And what's the answer?)

Am I still with Paul? And the answer is yes...five years now.

9. Do people recognize you in public? Tell us about the most interesting fan encounter you have had.

It's amazing (and scary) how often it happens five years later. I just returned from Europe and so many people approached me there on the street. The most interesting experiences have been having celebrities tell me how they love watching the show. Now that's weird.

10. Is there anything from your show that that makes cringe when you think about it (or see it re-aired) now?

Sadly yes, a moment of life that will probably always haunt me. When I'm 60 and my teeth and hair are falling out, I'll still have people asking me what I did in the closet during Mardi Gras. Less than people think!

11. What's the most valuable lesson you've learned from your Real World experience?

Egos are a bitch and can get out of control when left unchecked.

On June 19, MTV  aired a special 10-year-anniversary tribute to "The Real World." It will include interviews with past cast members and celebrity fans of the show, (including yours truly), along with special moments from this groundbreaking television experience. In light of the current saturation of reality TV, we forget that "The Real World" was the granddaddy of them all.

It discussed real issues that much of society only discussed behind closed doors: AIDS, race, gender, class, alcoholism, religion, abortion and most of all, sexuality. Every year, from its inception, "The Real World" had at least one gay, lesbian or bisexual member in the cast.

Hopefully you'll stop by and read this before it scrolls off, but I just noticed that you were posting on the board and I wanted to respond. Yes, you are the guy I was referring to in that interview about a guy who was openly gay in highschool. I'm extremely glad you've found happiness in life and I wish you the best. Moving on from the past is the best. And one more thing Russ, get the story straight...we never held hands...more like, you tried to hold my hand. It was very obvious to me even back then that you wanted more than to be friends and I was not down with that back then. But again, i just want to say how happy I am for you that you've found your place in the world and wish you the best.
Much Love,
Danny

Just wanted to drop a line and tell you that this is a wonderful site.
I think you, Paul and Danny are doing great things through this site.
It's nice that you have created a "clean" place were gays, straights or however can come and look around, ask questions, find answers or just sound off....
