The "Queer" Comedienne Mouths Off About Gay Marriage
So they've
put a stop to same-sex marriages in San Francisco, thanks to our
governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. In a recent Meet The Press,
this actor-turned-government official said something to the
effect that, if they did not put a stop to same-sex unions, the
next thing you know, there will be riots and injured and dead
people in the streets. Admittedly, 1 am paraphrasing, but what I'm
wondering here is: Is that a threat?
is Arnold going to go up to
that City by the Bay himself and turn that red light on in
his eye and use all His terminating morphing mercury ways to stop
if? Has he come back from the future to stop same-sex marriage?
And, quite simply, what is so wrong that
Adolf—erm, I mean Arnold— actually believed there would be blood
in the streets if Mayor Newsom didn't stop issuing marriage
licenses? Are althe roles he's played on screen starting to become
indistinguishable from real life? And, if so,
has he played politician before?
This isn't the movies. This is real
life, and there is no stunt double and no script and no director,
and our governor should not be acting.
This is love. And Governor Schwarzenegger
cannot stop people from loving each other. And George W. Bush
cannot stop people from loving each other. Don't they think that
it will be happy and joyous and peaceful, if they just let it be?
What are they protecting us from? Heterosexuality? Homosexuality?
Bigotry? Prejudice? Flying bouquets of flowers? Rice thrown about
willy-nilly? The song "Here Comes TheBride" changing to "Here
Comes Gay Pride"? Other than bringing a snappier fashion sense to
marriage coverage in the papers, what effect does this have on our
government officials?
In short, the halt of same-sex marriages inflames Bush and
Schwarzenegger's own prejudices and beliefs that gays and lesbians
should not have the same rights as all other Americans. They
believe that they can control the citizens' of our nation and
impede their freedom in the name of morality. Tell me: Is it that
immoral to them that there is love between consenting adults that
has nothing to do with bigamy, bestiality, incest or any of the
other perversions the theocrats love to fantasize about that will
defy the status quo? Are our elected officials really afraid that
this will opent[he floodgates of faggotry in the U.SA and suddenly
start to resemble Berlin in the early '30s? It will be the Weimar
Republic all over again, and we Americans might God forbid
experiences renaissance of art and culture and tolerance? The
idyll didn't last for them, but it wasn't because there was a
so-called Religious Right there to stop the "madness" of freedom
and acceptance. It was Hitler. But I don't have to tell Governor
Schwarzenegger about that, do I? He knows a lot about him. More
than most people do, I would say. But I am not here to judge
Arnold's role models. It just concerns me when the governor of
California tries to emulate them.
Hitler really haled homosexuals. Me, I love them. Recently, I
launched a new site dedicated to equal rights and marriage
equality called loveisloveislove.com. I hope that you'll stop by
sometime, do a little reading, do a lot of thinking and help me
take some action. 1 really want to live in a country where all
people are equal—not separate, not "civil-unionized " and not lied
to about their rights. Do you?
