You be the judge, as two very different gay guys heat up the new season of MTV's Road Rules.

TO HEAR MTV TELL IT, NICK and Danny are complete opposites: Lady and the Tramp. "I wouldn't classify myself as a slut," shrugs Danny, 21, one of six members of the recently premiered season of Road Rules (called Road Rules: X-Treme), which sends a group on challenges to either earn a final reward, or get booted out. Bios of the boys, who are dining on Chinese food at P.F. Chang's in Pasadena, Calif., allude to Danny's "impressive" sexual history while calling Nick "wholesome." "I don't cheat on my boyfriend," Danny states, noting he's been happily coupled for over a year. "I don't sleep around. Yeah, I'm more sexually experienced, but I've been out for over six years."

"I think its funny," adds Nick, 22, who isn't part of the original six, meaning he replaced someone who got voted off the show. "'Virgin' sounds very pious—kind of like a prude. I came out when I was 19, versus Danny, who came out when he was 14. A lot can happen in five years." He is quick to note that "vir-gin" for him refers only to anal intercourse: "I'm not willing to do it just to get it out of the way." Still, says Nick, who's single, it's not like he's waiting for marriage. "I'm not in a rush to get it done, but it will happen sooner or later."

No matter the guys' differences, their appearance on the extreme-sports reality show marks the first time the series has had two gay male cast members. Nick, passed over in the original auditions, had resigned himself to being reality-free when he got the call (on his birthday, no less) that someone had been voted off the show and he was needed to fill their shoes. Both men agree that what fueled their desire to hit the small screen was the chance to tell their stories.

"My freshman year of college the New Orleans season of The Real World was on, and I was just dealing with my own issues of coming out," Nick recalls. "Danny Roberts was a great example for me. I realized the effect that someone could have on a viewer, and I loved the idea that I could have that effect on somebody." While Nick's coming-out experiences were very positive, Danny's were not as great initially. "I came out to my mom when I was 14, and she grounded me for being gay," he recalls. "But now we have a great relationship." The same cannot be said of his estranged father, who Danny says was physically abusive to him and his mother. "He doesn't know I'm gay," Danny notes. "I don't really care if he finds out."

Danny was initially nervous about joining the show, not for fear of being out on television but because of potential homophobia among his RV-mates— a fear that turned out to be somewhat valid. "During the first couple weeks that I was there, when certain gay things ere talked about, they would say, Earmuff,'" recalls Danny, who singles out cast member Derrick as the main
offender. ("Earmuff" is a reference to the film Old School, in which a child would cover his ears when something inappropriate was said.) "It was only directed to the gay stuff. I confronted Derrick, but all he kept saying was 'If s part of a movie.' Just because its part of a movie doesn't make it right." For the record, Nick didn't encounter anything he perceived to be homophobic.

But neither has any regrets. "It was one of the best experiences of my life," says Danny, who's currently on break from college in New Jersey but plans to resume in the fall. Nick, who intends to return to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to complete his senior year, adds, "I would do it again, no questions asked." Jeffrey Epstein

10 Question for Danny RR

1. Why did you audition for Road Rules?

Honestly, I originally wanted to be on The Real World, but I knew I would probably be chosen for Road Rules. Who wouldn’t’ want to be on Road Rules though? You get to travel and do some crazy sh** that no one would ever get to do, plus you get to meet some really cool people…and it’s all FREE!!!

2. What were you doing when you found out you were going to be on the show?

I was on my way home from the bank when I got a phone call from the producer letting me know I was selected to be on Road Rules. At the time I was sick with the flu, so I probably didn’t sound very excited over the phone but I was crazy ecstatic inside. I immediately called my mom, boyfriend, and best friend to tell them the good news.

3. What questions were going through your head before the trip?

Before the trip all I kept wondering was: How the hell am I going to share an RV when I can barely share a house with my mother? I didn’t know what to pack or how much to pack. It didn’t feel real. It didn’t really sink in that I was going to be on Road Rules. Once I was flying down to South America it finally sunk in that I was going to be on Road Rules, I started getting nervous. I was hoping to have an awesome time down in South America and to kick some major ass.

4. What was your life like before the show? Describe a typical day in your life, pre-Road Rules.

I’d roll out of bed and shower. Go to my classes for the day, and then come home to find my boyfriend still sleeping in bed (which made me really envious of him). Watch a little television while getting ready for the gym. Next, I’d go to the gym for about an hour and a half, to maintain this hot-ass body of mine. Then I’d go to work till the late hours of the night and then come home to cuddle in bed with my better half.

5. What are you passionate about? What do you love? What inspires you?

I love to act. I’ve been performing for years and when I’m on stage I just feel home. It’s such an amazing feeling to become another person for a moment in time. Obtaining knowledge is so important to me because “knowledge is power” and I’m a BIG power freak. Sex is always important, especially with me because I’m a very sexual person. Making money because I’m a greedy bastard and I want to have a huge house and lots o' cars like the ones in those rap videos. I want to be Big Pimpin’. Going to the gym because bigger is better and I want everyone to be like, “Damn, he’s f***ing hot!” Last but definitely not least… “Ooooo, I love myself!” Oh yeah, and I love my mom and boyfriend too.

6. What is your romantic status?

Before I started Road Rules I had been dating a guy for ten months and we are still dating. It's going pretty well except for the way I act sometimes. I can be a real d*** sometimes and I love him for sticking it out.

7. Have you ever had your heart broken or broken someone else's heart?

I’ve had both. My heart was broken by my first boyfriend, MJ, when I found out he had been cheating on me with a lot of other people and how he ended it so abruptly. I think what made it so tough was that he was my first and I let myself fall for him. I also had my heart broken by another ex-boyfriend, Ryan, when I found out that while we were trying to patch up our relationship, he was sleeping with his roommate and he had been leading me on. But you live and learn form these experiences.

8. What do you find attractive? What qualities do you look for in someone you'd like to date?

In guys--I like guys with muscles. Lately, I’ve had this thing for guys with a buzzed haircut. Don’t ask me why, but it makes me squirm. I like the rugged looking guy, but I love preppy boys too. I like the Abercrombie type. Athletic, nice smile, good hygiene, good sense of style, sweet, sense of humor, charming, nice butt, and a HUGE…brain. I hate guys who think their sh** doesn’t stink. If I’m going to date a guy, he needs to have a decent sex drive and has to want me for me. He also needs to have aspirations and goals because I can’t be dating a slacker.

In girls--I like exotic looking girls who don’t’ wear a lot of make-up. I’m into the natural beauties. I’ve always had a thing for Asian girls. Good hygiene, hot sexy, smart, sense of style, funny, nice smile. I like the Jessica Simpson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Natalie Portman types. I don’t like girls who are bitchy and have to get smart with their boyfriends. I also don’t like girls who wear Juicy Couture on their ass.

9. Before this trip, what was the coolest place you'd ever traveled to?

I went to Portugal when I was young, but I don’t remember it so I’d have to say Miami, Florida. I like the beach and hot weather.
